The Regina General and Pasqua Hospitals are the two major hospitals servicing the southern region of Saskatchewan. They were originally built in the early 1900s and have since had multiple expansions and renovations, most notably in the late 1990s. Aging infrastructure and the need for expansion have led the Saskatchewan Health Authority to develop a program for the renewal/expansion of the major electrical and sewer and water infrastructures at both hospitals.
Drew Consulting has been working with SHA since 2017 to help with the planning and development of the Electrical Infrastructure Renewal Program. As a direct result of this program, there have been many emergency and non-emergency projects in which Drew Consulting was involved in a Project Management role. Examples of such projects include: RGH Essential Power Building (new build), RGH Transfer Switch Replacement, Pasqua Essential Power Building (new build in progress), Pasqua Uninterruptible Power System Upgrade, and many other Emergency Risk Projects.
In 2020 Drew Consulting became involved in the Sewer and Water Infrastructure Program as well, and has been working with SHA and consultants towards the completion of projects at both hospitals.
The Holy Rosary Cathedral is one of the province’s outstanding architectural landmarks that was originally constructed in 1912 and serves as the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Regina and Catholic community of Southern Saskatchewan. The Cathedral is in dire need of maintenance, repair, and upgrades, not simply for aesthetics but to meet safety issues, building code compliance, accessibility, and zoning regulations. In addition, the Archdiocese of Regina is also planning to build a new Archdiocese and Pastoral Centre next to the Cathedral.
Drew Consulting felt this project aligned with their mission to help improve and better our community and has been helping the Archdiocese of Regina with the project initiation activities that are needed to properly structure and plan the project in order to move forward. The services Drew Consulting provided included identifying the stakeholders, developing a governance structure, developing the Steering Committee Terms of Reference, outlining requirements, defining the scope, identifying procurement needs, outlining community engagement requirements and processes, and coordinating and documenting meetings with various stakeholders.
With over 40% of the Saskatchewan population living in rural areas, it is critical that infrastructure in rural Saskatchewan is maintained to adhere to safety and health standards. Drew Consulting has been working with the Saskatchewan Health Authority on infrastructure projects at several rural long-term and acute care facilities. These projects include replacement of boilers, mold remediation projects, kitchen renovations, parking lot upgrades, building additions, roofing projects, AC unit replacement, and more.
Drew Consulting enjoys working directly with operations personnel towards the common goal of completing the project on time and ensuring the work is done in accordance to scope and stays within the budgetary constraints. As owner representatives on these projects, Drew Consulting has been involved throughout the entire project lifecycle. This includes working directly with on-site staff and regional managers to define the project scope, following SHA procurement guidelines for attaining a consultant and/or contractor, managing the project through the design, procurement(s), and construction, reporting to the client in accordance to an agreed upon process, and closing out the project.
Park Centre is a three-story, 53,330 sq.ft. high-end Class “B+” terrace office building situated a few minutes from Regina’s downtown. The atrium and terrace design provide a peaceful atmosphere in a park-like setting. The Park Centre project included extensive renovations to the interior and exterior of the building which included new exterior cladding, granite base, upgraded windows, a parking lot with stamped concrete, electrical pedestals, lighting, and landscaping. The atrium, lobby, and the building elevator were also reconditioned to refresh the aesthetics and improve the energy efficiency of the building.
Drew Consulting worked with the client, Harvard Development Corporation, to provide Project Management services to effectively complete this project from start to finish. This involved substantial planning, involvement of multiple stakeholders, aligning various project phases interdependent of each other, multiple procurements involving consultants, contractors, and sub-contractors, and identification of best practices to proceed with project execution while ensuring minimum disruptions to the clients and to customers.
The University of Regina campuses are located on 239 acres in Wascana Centre, one of the largest urban parks in North America. The University is planning an upgrade to their Emergency Power system in order to ensure there is minimal operational impacts on campus in case of an electrical power outage.
Drew Consulting has been working with the UofR to obtain an understanding of the current state of the emergency power system, what the minimum requirements are to meet the codes and standards for emergency power in the buildings, and to prioritize projects in accordance to urgency. Project activities included the creation and approval of a Project Charter, audit of existing buildings, analysis of buildings to codes/standards/best practices, stakeholder engagement, and helping with the project management of emergency risk projects.
